Using video analysis for rugby training

Rugby training is easy with the Rugby sportswizards application.

The three main functions of sportswizards are to:
  1. View the All Black/s demonstrating the skill associated with the Rugby sportswizard you have purchased. (All Black Screen) This screen is amazing with never seen before footage of the All Blacks performing all the skills required in rugby. View the footage full speed, slow motion, super slow motion or frame-by-frame. Listen to step-by-step audio coaching you through the key factors of every skill. You can also listen to the All Blacks give personal accounts of what they specifically concentrate on when performing each skill. Become an expert in the skills of rugby!
  2. Compare yourself with the All Black/s by recording a video of yourself completing the skill and then using the CompareME screen compare yourself alongside the All Black/s. Have you ever wanted to compare your spiral kick against Dan Carter? Or your scrum position with Carl Hayman's? Well now you can! See yourself, or if you're a coach, your players side by side the All Blacks and compare and analyse the differences in technique!
  3. Obtain a Report giving information and feedback on how well you have completed the skill compared with the All Black/s and NZRU guidelines. This report will show you areas that you may need to work which will enable you to become the best you be!
Getting Started

To get the most from your Rugby sportswizards™ application please take the time to read these instructions. Further information and assistance is available by clicking on the help button located at the top left corner of all screens in the application.

Once you have downloaded the FREE application you will be taken to the login page. As a new user you will need to click on the new user button.

This will take you to a registration page where you enter your name. Follow the instructions and when completed you will return to the Login Page. Click on the down arrow tab and select your name. Click on Login and you will then be taken to the “Selector” screen – the first of seven main screens.

The seven main screens in the application are accessed by clicking on the seven buttons running along the bottom of the screens. To access the All Black, Videos, CompareME and Report screens you are required to complete steps in previous screens. These buttons will change from grey to green as you complete the required steps.

SELECTOR SCREEN

The selector screen is a catalogue of all the Rugby sportswizards available to purchase. To access the wizard you have purchased click on the My Wizards tab in the middle of the screen

The first time you access any purchased wizard you will need to activate the wizard and it then becomes “ready” for use.

Click on the wizard you wish to use (it will highlight grey) and then click on the All Black button at the bottom of the screen (you will note this button is now green).

ALL BLACK SCREEN

Once you have placed your video clip into the My Workspace box you will need to drop and drag it again to any of the three options below My Workspace:
  1. Preview - This option allows you to preview the video clip you wish to analyse
  2. Analyse - This option will copy the selected clip to the CompareME screen to enable you to complete your analysis.
  3. Delete - This option deletes the video clip from My Workspace but not from your hard drive.

Capture

Use this tab where you wish to capture video directly from your camera to My Space

Connect your camera to your computer and click on the down arrow tab to select your camera (capture device).

Click on the button to begin capture and a second time to end capture.
The video clip will then be placed in My Space and you can Preview, Analyse, or Delete as per the instructions for the Import tab.
